Research Interests

Most of my research has been devoted to Russia, especially the energy sector and energy politics. I have written about the internal organization of the oil and gas industries, the potential for foreign participation and export policies. I have also studied the development of Russian climate policies and its relationship to the energy interests, and I am currently engaged in a project on consequences of climate change for economic development in Russia’s Arctic. Starting with participation in the International Northern Sea Route Programme (INSROP) I have conducted studies related to Arctic shipping, with emphasis on political and legal conditions for navigation on the Northern Sea Route. Norwegian policies in the High North, particularly related to Svalbard, has been a constant interest.
