Dr. ZHANG is the director of the Center for Maritime and Polar Studies at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. His main research areas are the international strategy, maritime and China's peripheral security, China's energy security, Arctic geopolitics.
He has participated in and organized many domestic and international academic conferences on Arctic affairs. He visited Russia, America, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Japan, South Korea and other Arctic countries in the past decade. He was an international visiting scholar at the University of Maryland and CSIS.
