Yang Jian is Vice President and Senior Fellow at Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), Director of the Institute for International Organization and Global Governance at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Vice Chairman of the Pacific Society of China.

He is also Deputy Director of the China-Nordic Arctic Research Center, a member of the Arctic Circle Mission Council on Global Arctic and Chairman of the Academic Steering Committee of the Polar Research Center at South China Business College (SCBC).

His areas of specialization include: the International political economy (IPE), China’s regional strategy in polar affairs and cyber governance. His previous positions include: Executive Vice-Chairman at Shanghai Institute for International Strategic Studies, a member of the editorial board for the Arctic Yearbook, a member of the editorial board for Review of Policy Research, and deputy director of the department of IPE in the Institute of World Economy, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). He received his doctorate in economics from SASS. The book of Power and Wealth in Cyberspace (Shanghai People’s Publishing House, 2012) acquire the First Prize for Outstanding Achievement in the Book Category in the 12th Shanghai Municipal Philosophy and Social Sciences Award). He was also listed as a ‘Shanghai Leading Talent’ in 2016. Yang Jian’s recent books include: Science Community and Global Governance: a case analysis on the arctic affairs (2018); SINO-NORDIC arctic cooperation: objectives and approaches (Current Affairs Press,2019); New Perspectives on the Arctic Governance (Current Affairs Press, 2014); Asian countries and the arctic future (2015); He recently also hosted several meeting about the arctic cooperation, such as SIIS Co-hosts the Workshop on “Arctic Revisited: Taking Stock of Developments in the Arctic” SIIS Hosts the 8th Symposium of the North Pacific Arctic Research Community
